In Photos: Divino Niño

Colombia is front and center on the mind this week as Passenger’s green buying team travels to Garzón to participate as judges in the 2022 Copa de Oro competition. As with the more narrowly focused regional competition (the Copa Suaceña) that we’ve been proud to support for the past three years, the Copa de Oro is being organized to identify and celebrate the finest single producer microlots of the harvest representing regions of particular focus for our sourcing partners at Osito Coffee. In addition to cupping beautiful Suaza coffees produced by members of the Divino Niño producer group (one of Passenger’s Foundational Partners since 2018), our team will also have the privilege of tasting competition submissions from farmers from other areas in Huila such as La Plata, Nátaga, Palestina, and San Agustín. Next week should be quite a full week of cupping to say the least, and we can’t wait to share our selections from the inaugural Copa de Oro as special Reserve Lot releases in 2023!

Given that we are spending one of the last weeks of the year with friends and sourcing partners in Colombia, it felt like a fitting time to share photos from a previous trip that Passenger made to Divino Niño last September. Our primary goal for this earlier trip to Divino Niño was to reconnect with producers that we hadn’t seen since the onset of the pandemic. One of Passenger’s founders, Crystal Weaver, visited Colombia for the first time, and our team had the opportunity to visit the farms of multiple producers (Adriana Gonzalez, Luz Angela Raigosa, Edgar Garcia Ossa, Mario Salazar, Eugenio Cantillo) whose names have become legends of the Reserve Lot menu in recent years. These photographs were taken by our staff photographer, Julianna Stallings, who also visited Divino Niño for the first time in September.
